F1 2025 Driver Lineup: Big names on the move as half the grid reshuffles for next season

With contracts expiring for nearly half the grid at the end of the season, F1 is bracing for a major driver market shakeup in 2025.

Following Lewis Hamilton's sensational move to Ferrari for 2025, all eyes are now on the vacant seat at Mercedes.

While Carlos Sainz ponders his next move, a new generation of talent like Kimi Antonelli is waiting for a chance to join the Silver Arrows.

Only one seat at Alpine is up for grabs for 2025 following Pierre Gasly's recent contract extension, with Esteban Ocon confirmed to be leaving the team at the end of the season.

Aston Martin became the latest team to confirm their full driver lineup next year, having announced that Lance Stroll will continue to race for the Silverstone outfit 'into the new era of F1 regulations' in 2026.

Now, let's dive into each team's potential driver pairings and contract situations.

F1 Driver Lineup

Here's a rundown of who will be racing where in 2025:

Red Bull: Max Verstappen's contract extends until 2028, making him the immovable rock at Red Bull. His team-mate Sergio Perez has also recently signed a contract extension that will keep him with the team until 2026.

Mercedes: Of course, losing Hamilton is a monumental blow for the Silver Arrows, but Sainz's potential arrival offers exciting possibilities.

The Spaniard has put on an impressive performance so far this season at Ferrari and could seamlessly transition into the Brackley-based team alongside George Russell, who recently inked a contract extension until the end of the 2025 season.

Ferrari: Signing Hamilton shows the Scuderia are going all-in on fighting for the championship. Leclerc's recent contract extension brings stability to the team, while Hamilton's skills and experience could be the key ingredients for victory.

McLaren: Both Lando Norris and young gun Oscar Piastri are locked in for 2025 after inking multi-year extensions through the end of the 2026 season.

Aston Martin: Lance Stroll's position in the team is secure after the announcement of a new deal that will see him remain until 2025 and beyond, while Alonso has also signed a contract extension with the team until the end of 2026, ending speculation that he could join rival teams.

Alpine: The French team will be parting ways with Esteban Ocon after this season, but have signed his team-mate Pierre Gasly to a fresh multi-year deal that will see him stay with the team until 2025 and beyond.

Haas: Following Hamilton's move to Ferrari, Haas became the centre of another driver market shakeup. The American team announced Nico Hulkenberg's departure at the end of the 2024 season, paving the way for a move to Stake F1 in 2025.

F2 driver and Haas' reserve Oliver Bearman is the frontrunner to replace Hulkenberg, but the team hasn't confirmed anything yet. Kevin Magnussen's contract also expires this year, leaving his future with Haas uncertain.

Stake F1 Team: With Hulkenberg confirmed for Stake F1 in 2025, speculation swirls around who will be his team-mate.

While reports suggest both Zhou Guanyu and Valtteri Bottas, whose contracts expire this year, might be shown the door, the team's final decision remains unclear.

Meanwhile, Audi, taking over the reins from Sauber in 2026, set their sights on out-of-contract Carlos Sainz, but the Spaniard has yet to decide his future.

Visa Cash App RB: Yuki Tsunoda has secured his spot on the grid in 2025, but Daniel Ricciardo's future is up in the air with his contract ending this year.

Williams: Logan Sergeant will see his contract expire at the end of this season, while Alexander Albon recently signed a long-term contract extension, meaning one seat is open for the next season as it stands.
